Hooper Straight Lighthouse by simba Hooper Straight Lighthouse by simba
While in St. Michaels, MD for a quick weekend getaway, I took a few moments to snap some shots of the 1879 Hooper Strait Chesapeake screw-pile lighthouse at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.

The fact that this structure helped boaters navigate the waters of the bay for 100 years as a working lighthouse is amazing. If you get the chance to visit, don't miss the opportunity to climb the stairs to the lens.

This is a really nice capture. The colors are just amazing. Am I correct to assume the tide floods the low areas on a regular basis?

I read about this lighthouse in one of my books, but for some reason I thought this was out further in the sea (I could be getting it mixed with another one though). Really nice exposure on this homeskillet.

Thanks for the kind words. I guess I need to get back in the saddle. Maybe I'll put some submissions together while watching football. ;)
